SACRAMENTO, Calif. (June 1, 2023) — Eli Underwood, one of California’s leading experts in partition actions, has been named to the California Lawyers Association’s Real Property Law Section Executive Committee to begin on September 24, 2023.

Mr. Underwood’s practice focuses on partition actions, which is a legal option available for people who own real estate jointly with others and want a clean break. Essentially, it allows one party to fairly solve joint co-ownership problems through the legal system. He is the founder of Underwood Law Firm, a boutique law firm with a proven success and multiple offices throughout the State of California.

“I am honored to be appointed to this prestigious committee,” said Eli Underwood, Founder of the Underwood Law Firm. “I am looking forward to sharing my expertise in partition law with others to help more people understand its benefits.”

Partition actions have historically been fairly rare but have drawn more interest in recent years, driven by trends such as millennials forgoing marriage and baby boomers passing on property to disagreeable heirs. In addition to creating demand for lawyers that understand the many disciplines partition action cases involve, from real estate to family to business to estate law, these situations present a new opportunity for realtors—as successful partition action resolutions require a real estate agent to sell the property.

The Real Property Law Section was organized in 1978 to serve as an information, education, and networking hub, allowing members to stay on top of the latest developments and trends in real property law. Its mission is to promote the highest standards of expertise, client service, and ethics in the practice of real property law through educational programs, publications, and outreach; provide a forum for professional development and networking; and encourage collegiality, inclusion, and diversity among its members.

Membership in the Real Property Law Section, and its Executive Committee in particular, provides lawyers with the opportunity to participate in and help develop policies and legislation that impacts real estate in California.
